Vulnerable | Salvaged

Hi readers!
Haven't blogged in a long long time/
This whole "holiday" has been crazy packed and I've already fallen sick twice within a single month. Feeling somewhat terrible even as I blog right now. Anyway, just did this shoot yesterday, and right after which I got a fever and slept so much I got tired of sleeping. Sadly, the shoot turned out not as great as I hoped for it to be, and I had to salvage what I could this morning. Then again, I'm somewhat enjoying the vintage grainy feel of the shots after editing.

I just felt like this song echoed this shoot. A Great Big World and Aguilera's voices complement each other really well; they're beautifully haunting and vulnerable in song. That was exactly it: the vulnerability which reflected the sentiments of my shoot.

There's that certain sense of solitude and guarded vulnerability. I wonder, maybe, if you know the feeling when you're so made-up and trim on the outside, so gelled together without a single thing out of place, yet you're crumbling down inside. Well, it's been happening to me. Ironically, whilst others may get confidence out of their looks, sometimes I feel downright terrible when I dress up and I lose my self-assurance. Even more ironic that I call myself a fashion-art blogger on my Instagram profile. It hasn't always been like that though; might also be the result of a myriad of things happening so far and a few of my own heart issues like my oxymoronic tendency to push people away the more I favour them (only some people, not all my close friends of course). Perhaps it was good for me to have fallen sick yesterday, gave me quite a bit of time to chew up the big pieces of heart issues and think 'em through. Therefore, letting some things go and I'll be on the road to physical and emotional recovery. Haha but don't get me wrong, I'm not depressed or anything, just overworked in my physical/emotional capacity for the moment. Here I am, with my little slice of vulnerability.

What I'm wearing: Pale Pink Hi-Neck Dress purchased from Carousell, Purple Vintage Ruffle Maxi Skirt from Hong Kong (thrifted)

Sorry about the lack of happy pictures to end off for this post~

DIY | Kimono Kraze

Hey readers!
I guess I caught on to the Kimono craze, and I DIYed my own Kimono Outerwear. Materials weren't that cheap at Arab Street with the printed cloth going at $10/m and the inner lining material at $5/m, but I guess still better than heading to spotlight. I took around 5 hours just to piece the entire kimono together from scratch, with inner lining and all; need to practice to work faster. If you guys are curious on how I did the kimono, do refer to Elle Apparel's tutorial as a reference model --- really useful!

Moving on to the exciting part: the shoot!
By the way, I was looking through the photos and I just couldn't help but laugh. I just looked like such a tree hugger in some of the photos.

What I'm Wearing: Handmade Black Floral Kimono Jacket, Black Leotard, H&M Basic Black Skater Skirt, ASOS Grey Creepers, ASOS Jewelled Hand Harness
(Btw I've posted this look on Lookbook, do help to support! It'll be much appreciated ^^)

I'd say this DIY project was definitely a success because it was the first time I bothered with inner lining and stuff, thus it was presentable before a camera. Yayers!
Other than that, I've also made a skirt out of the same material, which I may post later if I do a shoot with it or feel like it. Meanwhile, let me just flood this following part with some happiness and randomness.

i) Today was a beautiful day.

(probably already developing some treehugger instincts huh)

ii) So many girls hope to be more beautiful in one way or another. (myself included)
ESPECIALLY the whole thigh gap thing nowadays.
So unless you want to be a tripod, stop worrying! (okay this sounds nonsensical but let me explain)

You want to show more leg?
Sure, a tripod's got three.
You want longer, bronzier, skinnier legs?
Yeah, that all falls under 'tripod' too.

I'm so bad at telling jokes that only sounds funny in my head.

iii) The light hit the crystals beautifully. No editing needed.

Sorry for the weird format of posting today cause it's all a messy mix. Nonetheless, ending off with more happiness ^_^

Nat Leong x Jubitai

Hey readers!
Hope y'all had a great week (it's coming to the end of a Sunday here). It's raining, it's in the evening and I'm cosied up in a lounge secretly watching a movie off the reflection of my computer screen. (Come on, it's James Bond, who can resist a little classic movie action?) Lovin' this.
Sorry, just not-so-secretly snuck in that picture :)

Anyway, main point of blogging today is to introduce to y'all Nat; a really great friend to hang with and amazing photographer. We did the shoot 'EXPOSED' pretty recently (just last Sunday), heading to a few different places on the Purple Line which I'll tell you guys along the way! Enjoy~~

Part 1: Punggol // Forested
YES I KNOW. That floral crown again :) I guess it really did become one of my best friends since that day that we shot. I'm just showing a few of the selection/ my biases; so go ahead and check out the rest of Nat's photography work on his Facebook page!

This particular photo (above) reached the popular page on 500px; congratulations Nat! How awesome is that~
I also really appreciate the compositions of each and every one of the shots. And to me, composition really is one of the most key aspects in a photograph!

Part 2: Punggol // Bridge
This bridge was pretty fun to shoot at, especially for the levitation shot, but one annoying thing was just the whole horde of people walking about on it and the awkward sun in the sky (Do you know those suns stuck in the mist that are bright but clouded? Yeah those awkward suns.) Okay, that makes it two annoying things huh; sorry rambling here.

The above reminded us of (wait for it...)
SPARTAAAAA.
A blind shot, but it was one of my favourites.

 Part 3: Woodleigh // Twilight
This place was seriously reminiscent of scenes in Twilight, and it was pretty much a strange and creepy adventure because it was bordering towards nighttime + we were walking through the tall grasses + surrounded by nature devoid of other human presences. Then again, we pretty much didn't care and went ahead because YOLO. Hahaha nah, it's called having the adventurous spirit of photog kids. (I realised I'm rambling so much here I'm sorry, bear with me.)
Moving on, it turned out to produce theatrical and atypical shots, especially with the natural spotlight created within the shadows of the surrounding trees. Loved that too.

Part 4: Clarke Quay // Nightfall + City Lights
We got to Clarke Quay and did a few shots from across the road. Got random weird stares. I mean, after all, who would be posing in the middle of town with a ginormous floral crown and staring into the dark (cause Nat was across the road which was unlit)? Actually, come to think of it, I might. I'll try it again next time and tell you guys what it's like.

Part 4: Dhoby Ghaut // Almost The End
The shots for this part were a little more varied because we walked around different places in Dhoby.
I be giving myself chills in this picture.

Hope you guys enjoyed the whole series of photos, and do follow Nat if you have liked his work, be it on Instagram, 500px or like his Facebook page to support!

Here's more happy shots to end off!
Much love,
Jubitai

So gorgeous and I know it.

Debut | Mermaid

{ Mermaid, to be trapped in space and time.
To be caught in air as if underwater.
To be caught in the body of a fish while being so human at the same time. }

Hey readers!
Here's my debut post of my blog to be based on photography and fashion and in general, art; enjoy your stay here!
P.S. I did want to start with a jumpsuit for my debut in line with my blog name, but I did this impromptu shoot and decided to go along with this instead~
Love, Jubitai
